Antibiotic Cement in Joint Revisions Helpful or Hype?

Orthopedic Surgery - Bone & Joint Infections

This infographic from Orthopedia Insights explores a study evaluating the effectiveness of high-dose antibiotic-loaded bone cement (ALBC) in reducing surgical site infections (SSIs) in aseptic revision total hip or knee arthroplasty (rTHA/rTKA). Analyzing 290 patients, the results showed no statistically significant difference in infection rates between standard-dose and high-dose ALBC groups. Despite a higher rate of SSIs in patients with risk factors, the overall conclusion discourages routine use of high-dose ALBC in aseptic revisions.
